Twice a day, 4x4 safari vehicles, motor boats or mokoros (traditional dugout canoes), as well as on-foot safaris, all offer fantastic opportunities for guests to explore the raw African environment, full of resident wildlife, birdlife and flora. To guarantee an intimate experience, a maximum of 18 guests can partake of tours. On these, elusive species, such as Pel's Fishing Owl and the rare Roan Antelope, are likely sightings. This area is also acclaimed for its remarkably large herds of buffalo, often numbering up to 200 individuals, and including young calves and impressive bulls. Oversized bathtubs and al fresco showers add to the natural splendour, and the private plunge pool is a welcome retreat after a hot summer's day spent on safari. The deck area boasts incredible views of the stunning Okavango Delta. As a unique treat, Xudum Delta Lodge offers a rooftop sleeping area where warm evenings are enjoyed beneath star-speckled skies. A fully-stocked safari shop offers guests a range of chic safari wear, African art and jewellery; ideal gifts to take home as a souvenir of the African experience. The extraordinary decks of the guest area offers stunning views of the resident herd of hippos, which caper in the area's local lagoon. This guest area is outfitted with the comfort of the guest specifically in mind. Dining Xudum Delta Lodge is well-known for traditional bush dining under the stars and the innovative approach to cuisine. Activities Land- and water safaris are conducted twice a day and expose the array of wildlife and birdlife in the area. The exotic Delta is ideally experienced on foot during a fun bush walk. The nocturnal creatures are spotted on exciting night drives. Alternatively, take a relaxing mokoro trip to a private island where a laid-out picnic awaits the romantically-inclined. Before sitting down to a hearty dinner, work up an appetite on a game drive, and return to a rooftop dinner venue, with a personal butler. To round this perfect dinner off, relax under your mosquito net, while listening to the croaks and roars of the African wildlife in the bush night. The ecosystems of the Okavango Derlta are as varied as the spectrum of wildlife and include channels, lagoons, shallow wetlands, riverine forests, floodplains, open grassland, woodland, shrubland and palm savannah. Guided game drives or walks are all undertaken by qualified personnel, who are trained to identify interesting species of animals, birds and plants. Night drives expose the nocturnal activities that occur after dark on the Delta. Location Xudum Delta Lodge is situated on the edge of the permanent Okavango Delta in Botswana, on 25 000 hectares of beautiful wilderness. Only 20 minutes from Muan, Xudum Delta Lodge is easily accessible by air. From the airstrip, guests are able to enjoy a short game drive en route to the lodge. Climate Summer in Botswana extends from mid September to the end of March and boasts long hot days, broken by afternoon thundershowers and mild evenings. Winter (April to mid September) consists of mild days with chilly mornings and evenings. Temperatures range between a minimum of 4°C in winter to a maximum of 40°C in Summer. Rainfall is usually between October/November and March. These mild conditions ensure that Xudum Delta Lodge is the perfect holiday destination all year round. Malaria does occur in this area, and necessary precautions need to be taken. |
