The Valley Lodge is a luxurious 4-star retreat, perched on the Magalies River banks. Although being only an hour's drive from the epicentre of South Africa, Johannesburg, it is secluded and private. This accessibility and privacy is coupled with world-class service and superior amenities to create an ambience of sheer luxury and warm comfort.

The Valley Lodge is situated within the lush Magaliesberg Valley and is surrounded by a nature reserve that is home to many species of South African fauna and flora. Rivers and streams lull guests into a quiet sense of serenity, while the many bird species occupy the boughs above. This setting is ideal for romantic getaways, family holidays, conferences or teambuilding initiatives.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Valley Lodge comprises 65 rooms, each of which has been furnished in its own unique style. Standard facilities include a mini-bar, tea- and coffee station, television with satellite, room service and safe parking. The large guest lounge is a central spot in which guests can share their Valley Lodge experiences. Zeederburg 1 and Zeederburg 2 are the two in-house restaurants for guests of the lodge. There are also two bars (Saunders and Maloney), which offer great venues for guests to enjoy refreshing South African wines, ales or a tasty nightcap.
Facilities

For events, there are several options available to guests. There are nine conference venues, perfect for meetings, launches, training or brainstorming sessions. In addition, the various private function rooms provide additional escapes for the corporate strategists or for cocktail parties, wedding receptions etc... The elevated Boma (traditional African meeting place) is another fantastic facility, even if only for time spent with family, colleagues and friends. The wedding chapel on the property means that the bridal couple can enjoy their entire day on the gorgeous Valley Lodge estate.

Additional facilities and amenities include a Wellness Centre, 24-hour security, porter service, laundry, valet, airport transfers and a health, skin and body care therapist.

Activities

Guests of Valley Lodge will delight in the abundance of local activities in which the entire family or group of colleagues can participate and the facilities available to all. These include croquet, volleyball, a gym, high ropes course, nature reserve, boule, billiards room, three tennis courts (one of which is floodlit for evening games), swimming pool, trails, bird sanctuary and fly fishing (on a catch and release principle).

If confirmed before arrival, the lodge will be happy to arrange for horse riding excursions, golf, hot air ballooning, squash facilities, game drives to the Rhino & Lion Park, a jukebox, karaoke, tours to the Sterkfontein Caves, cocktail mixing competitions, stir-fry and potjiekos competitions and a cake art course. Some of these are enjoyed at an additional cost.

The Magaliesberg area is also known for its rich history and awe-inspiring beauty. Meanders through its expanses are most rewarding.

Dining at the Valley Lodge

There are two restaurants at the Valley Lodge, both boasting scrumptious flavours and fresh ingredients. However, there are several alternatives, which can be arranged with the lodge (some require an additional cost) for a novel dining experience. These include:

Lunch
Enjoy a light Riverfront Lunch on picnic blankets or at a picnic table while taking in the sights and sounds of the river banks. Alternatively, engage in the Build-a-Burger or Design-a-Sandwich activities, which take place on the terrace and lawn respectively. These allow guests to personalise their meals within the lush surrounds of the lodge, which are sure to inspire the creative juices.

Dinner
The Lapa overlooks the Magalies River, and is the ideal spot in which to enjoy a traditional South African barbecue, called a braai. Alternatively, savour a Pub-Themed Dinner in one of the bars.

Conferences

The nine conference rooms can accommodate between 10 and 140 delegates and are equipped with excellent audiovisual equipment. In addition, Valley Lodge is situated close to both Johannesburg and Pretoria, making for an ideal and accessible retreat. The ample property means that there is plenty of room for outdoor demonstrations or team activities.

Location

Valley Lodge is situated only 75 kilometres from Johannesburg and 90 kilometres from Pretoria.

Directions
From the Airport / East Rand
  • Upon exiting the airport, keep to the right, following the signs for the R24/ Johannesburg. This road joins the highway.
  • Continue straight along the R24 (N3) / Johannesburg.
  • Approx. nine kilometres after leaving the airport, move to the centre lane.
  • You will merge with the N3 highway.
  • Follow the signs for the N3/ N1/ Pretoria. Take the fork to the right.
  • Immediately after this fork, turn left onto the interchange and continue following the N3/ N1/ Pretoria signs.
  • Proceed past all the Sandton and Randburg off-ramps.
  • From here follow points 2 to 11: From Johannesburg and Gauteng.
  • From Johannesburg / Gauteng
  • Head west along N1 (concrete ring highway) just north of Johannesburg.
  • Exit from N1 at 14th Avenue off-ramp.
  • Turn right under highway, then right again at second set of traffic lights. You are now on the M47 to Krugersdorp / Tarlton (you will pass Hillfox Power Centre on your right).
