THANDA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE, SOUTH AFRICA

The luxurious 5 star Thanda Game Lodge is situated in the Thanda Private Game Reserve approximately 23km north of Hluhluwe in northern Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal. The name "Thanda" means love in the Zulu language and guests to Thanda are invited to experience a celebration of the Zulu people and their rich culture while enjoying an exciting African safari experience.

The Main Lodge

Thanda Game Lodge offers luxury and world-class service in the tranquil natural surroundings of the African bush. Each spacious bush villa is unashamedly indulgent with its private splash pool and viewing deck, sala, lounge, fireplace and a full bathroom with an inside as well as an outside shower. The public area at the main lodge features a comfortable lounge, library, dining room, boma, dining deck, wine cellar, cigar bar, fully equipped business centre and viewing decks from which to enjoy the sights and sounds of the African wilderness. Art by local artists and gifts can be purchased at the curio shop adjacent to the business centre.

The Tented Camp

Guests are offered a unique bush experience at the tented camp. Situated on the slope of a hill, with spectacular views of the Thanda game reserve, this camp has
no electricity and guests can choose to dine either in the dining tent or around the boma fire under the African night sky. Guests at the tented camp also have the choice of making use of the dining facilities at the main lodge. Each luxury tent features a private viewing deck and spacious bathroom with shower. Here guests can experience nature close up without compromising luxury or service.

Guests are assured of unforgettable dining at Thanda as they savour the skilful blend of western and traditional Zulu cuisine prepared by dedicated chefs. There is a choice of dining options - in front of a roaring fire in the dining room in winter, under starry skies in the boma or in the bush, or for a more romantic and private option, in their own secluded private boma or terrace.

Getting there

The Thanda Private Game Reserve is situated 23km north of Hluhluwe on the N2, towards Mkuze, approximately 300km north of Durban. The Thanda Game Reserve is easily accessible from the N2 on a gravel road, the D242, going westward approximately 5 kilometres to the Thanda gate.

The closest airport to Thanda is Richards Bay, and guests arriving there can be transferred to the lodge by prior arrangement. Overseas guests coming to stay at the Thanda Game Lodge usually fly to Johannesburg and a connecting domestic flight takes them to Richards Bay, where the Thanda staff will await them.
