The spectacular Tenahead Mountain Lodge is the most rewarding escape for nature-lovers seeking unspoilt African beauty. Situated high up, where the Drakensberg, Witteberg and Maluti mountains meet, this lodge was constructed by stone masons to create a natural exterior, one that deceives the opulent elegance contained in these walls.

In fact, it is the highest luxury lodge above sea level in the country. This area is so secluded that rock art is the only testament to the existence of ancient man ever having been in the area.

The Tenahead Mountain Lodge garden is home to a range of indigenous species as well as a water feature that has been created using alpine plants and material from the local environment.

Accommodation

The Tenahead Mountain Lodge boasts a 5-star rating. It comprises only seven luxurious suites, maintaining an exclusive touch and promising personalised attention. Each suite has en-suite facilities, open fireplaces in the bedrooms and stylish furnishings.

Expansive windows in the bedroom frame breath-taking views of the outside world. In addition, in-room amenities include a bar fridge (fully stocked), tea- and coffee station, television with satellite and a satellite telephone. Bathrooms have a bath, shower and standard guest amenities.

The lodge boasts three lounges, a breakfast room, dining room and library, all beautifully decorated and warmly inviting. Open fireplaces lure guests on chilly winter nights and the two wooden decks are the ideal retreat on warm summer afternoons and evenings. The library is crammed with thousands of books, particularly focused on South Africa's history, sights and attractions. Shopping enthusiasts are likely to enjoy the curio shop, which offers Xhosa and Basotho art as well as other interesting keepsakes that make excellent gifts.

South Africa is renowned the world over for its premium selection of top-notch wines and its stunning vineyards. Tenahead's private wine cellar is brimming with intriguing vintages and tasty samples. Full-bodied reds and refreshing whites are served directly from the bar cabinet and guests are encouraged to sample the range.

Dining at Tenahead Mountain Lodge promises a taste sensation of South African cuisine, infused with Asian and European influences. This novel approach to presenting South African dishes has earned much acclaim amongst guests.

Conferences

Not only does Tenahead provide superb accommodation, but is also ideal for conferences and similar corporate events. Amenities include an overhead projector, whiteboard, television and notebook projector. Tenahead can accommodate up to 24 delegates at a time.

Activities

Guests of Tenahead Mountain Lodge may not be able to tear themselves away from the luxurious lodgings. However, those that do manage to get out are advised to indulge in trout fishing, bird watching, fly-fishing or horse riding. The more energetic may enjoy touring the area on bicycle or on foot, or taking a hiking trail through this mountainous retreat.
