As a boutique hotel, Ten Bompas maintains a trendy appeal, while using shape and form to engender a sense of tranquillity, despite the hustle and bustle of the commercial epicentre of Gauteng. Part of the approach involves the use of modern art and sculptures from Africa.

Wood, natural textiles, earthy colours and custom-made furniture enhance this hotel's natural appeal. The Ten Bompas boasts a restaurant, wine cellar, conference facilities, outdoor terraces, refreshing swimming pool, pristine gardens and a modern bar.

Accommodation

The suites and facilities of the Ten Bompas hotel have been designed based on the extensive travels of the proprietors, who paid specific attention to the shortcomings of other establishments that they encountered. This ensured the Ten Bompas would not present guests with typical inconveniences. Rather, it has been designed to cater to the unspoken needs and desires of each unique and esteemed guest.

Each elegant room has an en-suite bathroom, separate lounge, fireplace, guest toilet, steam bath, balcony, bar, high-speed Internet access, television with satellite and CD player, in addition to tasteful furnishings and elegant amenities. Ten different interior designers had input into the suites, creating a space that has been formed using extensive skills and experience.

Dining

The Ten Bompas Restaurant is called Sides and is as trendy and tasteful as the accommodation. This eatery has a capacity of 50 diners and boasts the freshest ingredients and innovative taste combinations. South Africa is known for its outstanding wines. In fact, many of these have won international competitions. The double-volume, glass-fronted wine cellar holds about 4500 wines, both from South Africa and abroad. Guests can take a glance at these wines themselves, or can ask for a recommendation from the waitron.

Sides was ranked in the Top 10 restaurants in South Africa in the Eat Out Guide 2005.

Functions

This trendy venue is a hotspot for wedding receptions, cocktail parties, product launches or training initiatives. The venue seats 50 people, and can accommodate up to 100 people standing. The décor and venues are ideal for a variety of functions and the food is all from the esteemed Sides kitchen.

Conferencing

The Ten Bompas Hotel has three conference venues for corporate guests. The boardroom is situated on the upper floor and can accommodate 16 delegates in comfort. It has laptop connections and a large plasma screen. There is a meeting room on the same floor, which is more intimate, seating up to five people. This is perfect for brainstorming sessions. Finally, the dining room seats 18 delegates and is situated next to the restaurant.

Conference delegates have access to the flipcharts, whiteboards, overhead projector and Internet facilities, and will be served tea, coffee and mineral water on order. For full-day events, lunch can be arranged at the Sides Restaurant.

Location

The Ten Bompas Hotel enjoys convenient access to many of Gauteng's major business centres and tourist attractions. It is located in Dunkeld West, very close to the British Consulate General. It is also close to Sandton, Randburg. Rosebank, Pretoria, Hyde Park, Midrand and Illovo as well as the Johannesburg city centre. The OR Tambo International Airport is a mere 30-minute drive away.

Directions

From Johannesburg International Airport

Follow the N3 to Pretoria, until you reach the M1. Here, turn off on the M1 south to Johannesburg.

Exit the M1 South at the Corlett Drive offramp. At the traffic light, turn right into Corlett drive, and pass under the highway, carrying on straight along Corlett drive. You will eventually pass the Wanderers Cricket Stadium.

Drive along Corlett drive until you arrive at a T -Junction with Oxford Road. Turn left here at the traffic lights, into Oxford Road and at your first intersection turn right into Bompas Road. You'll pass through 2 sets of traffic lights: The 1st set is at Melville Road and the second crosses over Jan Smuts - a busy intersection.

Once you have crossed over Jan Smuts drive a few hundred meters and you'll see Ten Bompas Hotel on your left.
