Stanley's Camp5 STAR LODGE IN BOTSWANA MOREMI GAME RESERVE, BOTSWANA Stanley's Camp borders the acclaimed Moremi Game Reserve, and enjoys 260,000 acres of private concession. As such, guests are afforded exclusivity, which is especially valued when one considers the variety of wildlife that is homed in this area. These animals include the majestic elephant, moody buffalo, towering giraffe, lethargic hippo, impressive lion, sleek leopard, speeding cheetah and fascinating wild dog. Stanley's Camp comprises 8 luxury en-suite safari tents, all classically furnished in true African style. Each tent boasts handcrafted beds adorned in the finest linen, antique furniture and oriental carpets reminiscent of early 19th Century Africa. Private balconies come standard with each tent, finished off with a hammock and Morris chairs - creating the idyllic venue for sundowners, or soaking up the rays of the African sun. The main guest building is perched atop a wooden deck and provides spectacular views of the floodplains around Stanley's Camp. Careful attention has been aid to ensuring that Stanley's Camp blends subtly into the existing tree line, and the lodge is supported mainly by the sausage tree. |

Due to its prime positioning, right within the heart of the Okavango Delta, Stanley's Camp is home to some of the most beautiful wildlife, including the rare wild dog. An extra-special treat is to experience to semi-habituated African elephant, up-close-and-personal. Guests are afforded the rare opportunity of walking with, observing and interacting with these mysterious mammals. The mokoro is the traditional dug-out canoe. Stanley's Camp offers guests a water safari, conducted in one of these unique vessels. Water levels determine the availability of this activity. The open-sided 4 x 4 safari vehicles are suited to conducting on-land safaris, and night drives are a great way to view the nocturnal life of the bushveld. Walking safaris with an armed, qualified guide are also available. After a day spent exploring the game-rich environment, a bush dinner is a fantastic retreat, over which exciting sightings can be compared. Accommodation Stanley's Camp is made up of 8 luxurious safari tents, each placed on top of raised wooden decking, complete with hammocks and Morris chairs. From here, guests are invited to indulge in the sights and sounds of the veld, under the warm rays of the Botswana sun. Cool off in the crystal-clear swimming pool. Each en-suite tent provides guests with a hairdryer and ceiling fan. 240 volts of electricity is supplied, 24 hours a day, by a combination of a silent generator and a battery system. The main guest building enjoys elevation on a wooden deck, providing spectacular views of the floodplains around Stanley's Camp. Activities Certainly, game viewing is a must when visiting Stanley's Camp. Particularly noteworthy is the array of predators and plains game. This particular area boasts herd of buffalo which can number over 2000 beasts at a time in the dry season! Game drives: Game drives are lead by experienced guides and take place in the early mornings or late afternoon from customised open 4 x 4 vehicles. Should guests wish to enjoy a game drive at any other time, this may be arranged, and is subject to availability. Our guides are recognised as being among the best in Botswana. Due to Stanley's Camp's positioning within a private concession, night drives are available to guests, usually in combination with the afternoon activity. Walking safaris: Our qualified, armed guides will expose you to all the wonder of the African bushveld on foot. Mokoro (dug-out canoe) safaris: Indulge in a tranquil water safari on one of Botswana's traditional dug-out canoes, while being poled along the waterways by an experienced guide. These safaris are available for most of the year, but are subject to water levels. Location Stanley's Camp is set amidst towering ebony and sausage trees, right on the southern tip of Chief's Island. This camp borders the southern section of the Moremi Game Reserve. As this is a private concession, it is, by definition, located in a seasonal delta. June sees the floodwaters arriving. However, due to the presence of the Boro River, navigable water is usually available year-round. Due to the lush and varied nature of the location of Stanley's Camp, a large variety of animals have made their home here. These animals include elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hippo, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog. Climate Summer is the "wet" season in the Okavango Delta, and sees average temperatures ranging between 20?C and 38?C. This season normally stretches from late December through to early March. Hot, sunny days are broken by afternoon thundershowers that cleanse the earth and air. Pleasant temperatures and plenty of life-giving water ensure an abundance of new-born animals, predators, fresh flowers, and the migration of rare birds. Late March to early December is the "dry" season, or winter. Days remain temperate and pleasant, averaging approximately 26?C to 28?C. Mornings and evenings are cold, as temperatures can fall to 0?C. Autumn (April to May) and spring (September to November) temperatures are warmer. Autumn temperatures range between 10?C and 32?C, and spring temperatures reach between 15?C and 38?C. Peak game viewing is best between June and November. Visitors should ensure that their clothing should is cool and comfortable, and are advised to pack jerseys and heavier jackets for the chilly winter mornings and evenings. Muted colours should be worn when on safari, and long sleeves and long trousers are essential for morning and evenings, due to the proliferation of mosquitoes. Closed, comfortable shoes are a must. A fully complimentary laundry service is offered. Children Children under 9 years are not accepted as the camp is unfenced. |
