Right in the centre of Botswana's acclaimed Chobe National Park, Savute Under Canvas offers sophisticated semi-permanent tent camps. The six luxury safari tents are the ideal bases from which to enjoy pristine views and an exquisite array of wildlife.

Savute hosts the annual zebra migration during Botswana's rainy season, usually at its peak in January and February. At this time, herds of zebra and wildebeest meet on plains of sweet grass that have surfaced as a result of heavy rains. Along with zebra and wildebeest, leopard, cheetah, African wild dog and even the lion are also likely to cross viewers' paths. In fact, Savute boasts one of the largest concentrations of lions, offering an exclusive glimpse into one of the continent's most impressive cats.

In stark juxtaposition to the lush green vegetation on the banks of the Chobe River, Savute is dry and littered by dead trees in the channel, creating a desert-like ambience. Animals group together in any shady spot, as this is a rare find in Savute. The Savute River has always experienced an unpredictable flow, which is why the trees that once were are no longer supported.
Accommodation

Each of the 6 luxurious tents is furnished with a comfortable double bed, en-suite bathroom and separate toilet. A hot water bucket shower authenticates your African experience, while maintaining the indulgence of luxury camping.

The private butler service ensures that guests are catered for precisely according to their unique requirements. Sterling service is complimented by exclusive experiences like dining on Pan African cuisine under the stars.

A guest area is available to all Savute Under Canvas guests and is made up of comfortable tents for dining or relaxing with a pre-dinner drink. It is in these gorgeous surrounds that bush dinners or sumptuous cuisine is savoured under the high African sky. The guest area also contains card game and board games for those needing a quiet retreat.

Activities

Exciting game drives are conducted twice a day by qualified guides in open 4x4 safari vehicles through the exquisite Chobe National Park.

Savute is well-known predator interaction, particularly between the lion and hyena. This park is home to some of Botswana's largest lion prides, who share this portion of Chobe National Park with the elusive wild dog and the stunning leopard. The dry season brings impressive elephant bulls to the waterhole for a refreshing drink and mud bath, a spectacle well worth the visit. The annual zebra migration occurs in October and November and again in March and April every year, and also makes for a memorable sight.

Savute Under Canvas is situated in a malaria area and guests are urged to take precautionary measures (including medication) before arrival to the lodge. All tents are full equipped with mosquito netting.

Location

Savute is a well-known section of the larger Chobe National Park and boasts a very different kind of landscape to most of the other areas of the park. This Park is made up of 11 700 km2 of pristine wilderness. The north border is made by the lovely Chobe River, while all other sides are flanked by wildlife management areas and forest reserves, which allow for the free movement of game in order to allow for their natural migration patterns. The Chobe National Park is recognised as being one of the top wilderness reserves in the world and accommodates the largest single concentration of elephant. Savute is host to the annual zebra migration in January and February.

Access

Savute Under Canvas is accessible via air and enjoys the luxury of a private airstrip. Savute's guide will collect guests and transport them back to the camp by road.

Climate

Summer in Botswana extends from mid September to the end of March and boasts long hot days, broken by afternoon thundershowers and mild evenings. Winter (April to mid September) consists of mild days with chilly mornings and evenings. Temperatures range between a minimum of 4°C in winter to a maximum of 40°C in Summer. Rainfall is usually between October/November and March. These mild conditions ensure that Savute Under Canvas is the perfect holiday destination all year round.
