A personal game ranger and tracker will also be happy to take guests of this suite on a game drive in a private vehicle. Facilities There is an impressive array of wildlife in this area, many of which can be viewed from the comfort of the lodge's upstairs Library. For the avid shopper, our curio shop promises a very fulfilling shopping experience. Wireless Internet access is available to guests requiring to keep in touch with friends, family or colleagues during their stay. If necessary, there is also a facility to transfer digital photographs to CD. The Savanna Private Game Reserve's lounge and dining room is thatched and boasts stunning views of the swimming pool and watering hole. The open-air Boma shares this view of the water hole and is a lovely venue for traditional African fare enjoyed in the veld, under the high African skies. This Boma now enjoys a thatched bar and cooking area. Professional massages at the lodge include a 1-hour full body massage, a back & shoulders massage (30 minutes) and a leg & foot massage (30 minutes). Activities Big game is best viewed in the cooler hours of early morning, late afternoon or during the evening. The Savanna extends for thousands of hectares, and these are the plains on which magnificent beasts meander lazily under the hot summer sun. Wildlife includes lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino, cheetah, hippo and crocodile, as well as over 450 bird species frequent the area and are best viewed from open game drive vehicles. Qualified guides and trackers conduct these game drives and impart valuable info on the area in which they have extensive experience, coupled with a true passion. The Sabi Sand area is known as "The Land of the Leopard" for its prevalence of these magnificent mammals. The Land Rovers used for the game drives are state-of-the-art, and have been modified in order to allow maximum visibility of the surrounding wildlife, while maintaining optimal safety for the passengers. This is ideal for photographers too. The Land Rover can accommodate up to 10 people, although the lodge prefers not to have more than 2 people per row, in order to ensure that the visibility of each passenger is not hindered. Afternoon game drives are interrupted by a sundowner break, where guests are able to watch the light dwindle in an array of water colours above. Walking safaris are conducted every day, and allow guests an up-close-and-personal interaction with insects, plants, and even some of the smaller animals. Dinners and breakfasts in the bush are available on request, and depending on the weather. The day trips to the nearby Shangaan Village, coupled with a tour of the Panorama Route are available, and opportunities not to be missed. Savanna Private Game Reserve has been careful not to allow these trips to interfere with game drives. Whenever our guest venture out for a day of exploration, we recommend that they take comfortable walking shoes, a sun hat, sunglasses, sunblock, cameras, binoculars, neutral coloured clothing in a light fabric, warm jackets in winter (May to October) and any anti-malarial precautions your pharmacist/doctor may recommend. |
