| This reserve stretches for 60 000 hectares, and forms part of the breathtaking Greater Kruger National Park. In total, the Kruger Park is a further 2 million hectares in size (equivalent to the whole of Israel or Wales). The Greater Kruger National Park was officially formed in the early 1990's, when the boundary fence between the Kruger and the adjacent private reserves namely was removed to extend the total area to approximately 2.2 million hectares. These private reserves were Timbavati, Sabi Sands, Klaserie, Umbabaat, and Manyaleti.
Within the Greater Kruger, 35 different landscape types have been zoned officially. A "landscape" can be defined as an area with a specific geomorphology climate, wildlife, soil and vegetation. The Royal Legend Safari Lodge & Spa falls into a landscape zoned as: Combretum SPP (Bushwillow) / Colophospermum Mopane Woodland. The subterranean rock is mainly Granite and Gneiss, intersected by several Dolerite intrusions. The terrain is undulating with sandy soils. This area is between 300m and 500m above sea lever, with hot summers and cool winter. In low-lying areas, frost may occur occasionally. Accommodation Royal Legend Safari Lodge comprises 10 chic chalets; each perched along the river banks of the seasonal river. Each air-conditioned chalet boasts stunning views of the watercourse and lush surrounding vegetation, and was built with the environment in mind. Each chalet is designed to have as little impact on its surrounds as possible. Guests are encouraged to indulge in the river views through the extensive glass doors, right from the comfort of their beds - the perfect start to the day. Each chalet has been custom-furnished to create a unique experience every time our guests visit the Lodge. Sophistication and comfort converge to create a luxurious environment from which to enjoy Africa. Bedrooms are furnished with extra-length King-sized beds or twin beds, and showcase beaded artwork made by skilled women from all over South Africa. Mosquito netting over the windows and colonial-style mosquito nets over the beds make for a peaceful night's sleep in the heart of the African bushveld. All chalets are en-suite. Private decks come standard with each chalet and provide the ideal escape from on which to read (a small, well-equipped library is available to Royal Legend Safari Lodge guests), suntan, or watch the wildlife that make an appearance on the river banks. Reed cupboards and indigenous vanities and counter tops contribute to the authentic bushveld experience. Each wooden counter top is created using a solid slab of wood, incorporating the natural curves and knots. A bar fridge and a safe are discreetly placed within the reeded cupboards. The en-suite bathrooms are equipped with spa baths and double washbasins. The indoor shower structure opens out to a private outdoor shower, offering bathers a gorgeous view of river bed while refreshing themselves in the midst of the wilderness. Taking advantage of the views is a top priority at Royal Legend Safari Lodge. Large corner windows and a big glass door in the toilet create a sense of unity between the indoors and outdoors. While chalets are placed far apart, some may prefer to close the blinds for more privacy. Facilities At Royal Legend Safari Lodge, we appreciate the diversity of our valued guests. As a result, we ensure that we customise our service offering to suit each guest as specifically as possible. Dedicated staff members are committed to adding value during your stay. This is best manifested when considering the indulgent health spa, which provides fantastic treatments and products, administered by expert staff. Two circular fireplaces are contained within this area, and create a warm ambience of cosy camaraderie, particularly on the cold winter evenings. The entertainment area enjoys the gorgeous views of the riverbed and waterhole. Royal Legend Safari Lodge has further enhanced this view by installing special spotlights that do not interfere with the animals' nocturnal movements or activities. The waterhole is also visible from the bar. Guests are encouraged to experience dining luxury in all of the three available venues - under the thatched roof, out of the raised teak deck, or in the Boma. Each of these contributes to the experience in a unique and memorable way. Dining is distinctly South African, but special dietary requirements can be catered for on request. As an added service, the beauty therapist consults with the chef to ensure that guests receive a nutritious, varied menu from which to dine. Our well-stocked wine cellar contains a good selection of some of South Africa's best vintages to compliment the menu perfectly. The cellar also contains a large window, so that guests are able to take in the activity of the waterhole while enjoying the bouquet of an acclaimed wine.
