The renovations cost over 25 million Rand and included all bedrooms, bathrooms and public spaces as well as the lounge, bar and restaurant. Modern touches were added to create a trendy retreat from city living. Apart from beautiful and inviting interiors, the Protea Hotel The Winkler is situated in some of South Africa's most gorgeous landscapes. It is also close to many other famous and popular attractions, including God's Window and Sabie Waterfalls as well as the renowned Kruger National Park.

Accommodation

Accommodation at the Protea Hotel The Winkler comprises 87 rooms, each beautifully furnished with a tranquil ambience. Every suite has its own balcony, from where the splendour of this paradisiacal retreat can be enjoyed with a sundowner or a warm cup of coffee. Other standard amenities include an en-suite bathroom, plasma television with select satellite channels, air-conditioning, a safe that is large enough to hold a laptop, hair dryer, electronic locking system, international plug adaptors and a tea- and coffee station.

There are also luxury suites, which have all of the standard amenities as well as a lounge, dining area and a mini bar, which can be stocked upon prior arrangement.

Dining

The restaurant at this Protea Hotel is called The Wakuja and takes pride in its range of tempting local dishes and flavours. The menu is brimming with exciting options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the Sunday carvery is a treat for the whole family. Alternatively, parents can enjoy the carvery in the full confidence that the hotel staff are entertaining young ones in the Kidz Zone. Xilobo Bar is available to guests as a perfect venue for a relaxing drink with friends, family or colleagues. Views from this bar extend across the valley, lulling guests into a state of pure relaxation.

Facilities

Since its refurbishment, the Protea Hotel The Winkler now boasts a new conference centre that is large enough to accommodate up to 350 delegates and fitted with modern equipment, as well as a paint ball course and the Kidz Zone. These new facilities ensure that guests are satisfied whether they are at The Winkler on business or pleasure.

Other facilities include a refreshing swimming pool, tennis court, curio shop and safe parking. Guests are able to make use of the Wi-Fi hotspots, laundry and dry-cleaning services and Internet facilities too.

Attractions

The Protea Hotel The Winkler enjoys prime positioning. It is isolated enough to exude a sense of peace and isolation, but still close to many of the country's favourite attractions and activities. It is within a few minutes' drive of world-acclaimed Kruger National Park, White River Golf Course and the Kruger Mpumalanga Airport, as well as the Panorama Route, which includes Bourke's Luck Potholes, God's Window, The Pinnacle, Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondawels and the Sabie and Graskop waterfalls.

  • N4 from JHB/Pretoria to Nelspruit
  • Nelspruit, turn onto R40, left to White River
  • Through White River at last traffic light, turn left on R40 to Kruger National Park
  • After 3km, turn right onto R538, Numbi Gate
  • After 3km you will see Protea Hotel The Winkler on your right
