Travel Tips for Madagascar Madagascar enjoys the diversity of several different climatic zones, meaning that travellers can take advantage of a range of conditions during their stay. The island's dry season is between April and October, and December to February (the hot summer months) are usually very humid. Whale watching season extends from July to September, and is usually best enjoyed off Ile Ste Marie. Temperatures are usually temperate year-round (averaging 25°C), with the exception of the muggy summer months, which is also the cyclonic period (implying strong winds and daily rains). Madagascar's infrastructure has not been developed as much as larger metropoles. Visitors are, therefore, urged to travel carefully and slowly on roads. Madagascar is a malaria area. It is imperative that visitors take precautions against mosquito bites. Protective steps include wearing long-sleeved clothing that is light in colour, using insect repellents on exposed skin, taking malaria prophylactics before your trip, and sleeping under mosquito nets. |
