Attractions

Table Mountain

Table Mountain has become the globally recognised icon for Cape Town. With Devil's Peak on the one side and Lion's Head on the other, these mountains present an impressive and somewhat humbling spectacle that entrenches itself deep in the minds and hearts of locals and visitors alike. A cable car transports thousands of people to the flat top of the mountain every year, promising awe-inspiring views. There are also several hiking trails and footpaths that the more energetic of travellers may opt for.

Once atop this magnificent mountain, Cape Town takes on a completely new perspective. Camps Bay, the city bowl, and Clifton lay beneath one, while the view extends far further to the mountainous wine farm regions, Robben Island and the Indian and Atlantic oceans.

V&A Waterfront

The V&A Waterfront presents visitors with a unique mix of shops, restaurants, salons, boutiques, galleries and hotels within the working harbour of Cape Town. Yachts and fishing vessels pass by diners savouring world-class dishes and ferries transport tourists to and from Robben Island between shopping trips. From almost every eatery in the Waterfront, magnificent views of the sea and Table Mountain are on offer. The many hotels within the confines of the Waterfront make for the ideal base from which to explore Cape Town.

Robin Island Museum

Robben Island is famous for its being the site of former-President Nelson Mandela's incarceration during the Apartheid regime. However, it has been a historical place of exile for over 400 years. As such, it bears much cultural and historical significance. The Robben Island Museum is situated at the V&A Waterfront, just minutes from the Mountain Marina Premier Apartments. This museum tells of a struggle far greater than incarceration. Indeed, it tells the story of the South African hardships, and the enormous efforts made to ensure that such human injustices were transformed into a personal and social development and growth for the entire nation. This museum tells the story of the triumph of justice and equality.

Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

The Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens are situated in the suburb of Newlands. They are home to a diverse plethora of plants; from tropical ferns, tall evergreens and aloes to fynbos, roses and herbs. These gardens have been in operation for almost 100 years and were once the property of the early explorers and colonialists. There are many paths along which to walk, speciality gardens, restaurants and picnic spots, as well as a curio shop and art gallery.

Cape Town Beaches

Cape Town is renowned for its gorgeous beaches, with warm white sand being lapped by the refreshing waters of the cool ocean. Cape Town is unique in that its coastline is the meeting point for the Indian and Atlantic oceans. The diversity that this creates ensures a destination that is ideal for swimming, surfing, SCUBA diving, snorkelling and sailing, or simply soaking up some of the warm South African sunshine. A high-factor sunscreen should be applied at all times.

Cape Point Nature Reserve

The Cape Point Nature Reserve is at the Cape of Good Hope entrance, where the two oceans meet at one magnificent point. The views from this southern-most tip of Africa are unrivalled. There are several restaurants and shops at the point, making this an ideal day trip for the entire family.

The Cape Winelands

The Western Cape is renowned for its superior wine farms. They are acclaimed for their world-class wines, but also for their magnificent beauty. Visitors are invited to conduct private wine tastings on most of the farms, and some estates even allow guests to assist with the harvesting process. There are over 200 cellars from which to choose, many of which are culturally and historically relevant as well. However, wine farms are not all that the winelands promote. The natural abundance and the proliferation of mountains and valleys in the area make for the ideal adventure-destination. Adrenalin junkies are able to use these resources for kloofing, abseiling, canoeing, hiking, mountain-biking and rock pool swimming.

Activities

Two Oceans Aquarium

The Two Oceans Aquarium, named in reference to the meeting of the Atlantic and Indian oceans, boasts a sample of the variety of plant-and animal life that has made its home in these waters. It has over 3000 living residents of fish, mammals, birds and turtles, which are visible from close proximity within their natural environment. Sharks glide past in haunting beauty, while the penguins waddle around in search of more fish. The Two Oceans Aquarium is committed to the conservation of various species and conducts educational programmes and initiatives to raise awareness and aid in these efforts.

Robben Island Tours

Robben Island and the Robben Island Museum provide fascinating insights into the history and culture of modern South Africa. Some of the tour guides are, in fact, ex-political prisoners who now live and / or work on the island, providing visitors with an authentic account of their experiences there. Ferry trips are conducted from the museum at the V&A Waterfront to the island on a daily basis, weather permitting. Once on the island, tours are available through the prison itself, as well as around the grounds and to several other notable sights.

Motor Classic Rentals

This exclusive service involves renting a swanky SLK, Alfa Spider, Jaguar E-Type, vintage Bentley etc... and exploring the coast and mountains from the comfort of its world-class interior. This experience is sure to leave tourists with a lasting sense of style and indulgence while they appreciate the beauty of Cape Town.

Aquila Safari Experience

The Aquila Private Game Reserve is a 4-star facility that is focussed on educating visitors about the environment, their impact thereon, and protective and preventative measures that need to be taken. In this way, its enrichment is longer lasting, adding value to its own resources as well as to the experience of the visitor. Aquila is particularly well-known for its methods and initiatives to reintroduce species into the Cape. Lion populations were in danger as a result of the 'canned lion' trend that once plagues the Western Cape. However, Aquila was instrumental in reintroducing and preserving these magnificent creatures. Cheetahs were also high on the priority list for Aquila, and they continue in their efforts to protect such important wildlife.

Aquila's landscape comprises mountains, valleys and grassy plains, granting a distinct African air to its expanse. This adds to the authentic experience and provides a diverse habitat for many different species of fauna and flora.
