Motswari Private Game Reserve hosts Africa's Big Five is nestled away within the Timbavati Nature Reserve. This four-star, family-owned lodge is open to the Kruger National Park, and exudes a warm, hospitable ambience, typical of the South African spirit.

"Motswari" is a Tswana word that means "to conserve and protect". The owners maintain this attitude in all their dealings with existing and potential friends that are guests of the lodge.

Motswari Private Game Reserve boasts true luxury in vintage elegance, while remaining committed to providing a genuine safari experience. Timbavati Reserve is 150 square kilometres in total, and makes up a part of the world-famous Kruger National Park. As such, guests are invited to enjoy the diverse wildlife in the environment in which they are intended to live, including all of the Big 5. This means that Motswari Private Game Reserve is the ideal base from which to explore South African splendour.

Exclusive accommodation ensures that a maximum of 30 guests are staying in the lodge at any time. This makes for a more peaceful, intimate environment from which to enjoy Africa. 15 en-suite bungalows are beautifully furnished in chic elegance. Each bungalow offers the luxury of air-conditioning for the hot African summers, along with spectacular views of the 'veld', all enjoyed within a décor that mirrors the natural textures and colours of the surrounding bush. The conference facilities at Motswari Private Game Reserve are well-equipped and ideal for the corporate guest. These facilities, as well as their prime location mean that teambuilding exercises, product launches, and corporate getaways are aptly executed at Motswari Private Game Reserve. The conference room is air-conditioned and Internet hotspots are available for those requiring access to their emails or browse the Net. The conference room can be custom-designed and furnished according to your needs, upon prior arrangement with your hosts.

Two fully-licensed bars create an ideal venue to relax after a day exploring the African landscape or conducting important business meetings. The swimming is a great way to relax and cool down, and the curio shop is source of unique, locally-made items that are sure to bring to mind the memory of your African experience. The library and art gallery are less likely retreats for guests requiring some intellectual stimulation.

Fine dining can be enjoyed whilst on a trail with a professional guide or in the comfortable lounge, where delicious titbits may be savoured at your leisure. Alternatively, dinner may be enjoyed in the open bush, or in the more sheltered Boma (a traditional African meeting place) - both providing an authentic African experience. Meals are complemented by a carefully-selected wine list consisting of award-winning vintages.

Wildlife

Motswari Private Game Reserve strives to showcase the abundant wildlife that is resident to the South African countryside. All of South Africa's Big Five frequent the area, and share the surrounds with a wealth of other game, insects and birds. The boundary between Motswari and Kruger National Park is not defined by fences or gates, and animals are able to cross this border freely.

Motswari's guides live in the area. Their first-hand knowledge of the area and experience with the animals is coupled with their superior academic knowledge to ensure that they provide guests with an informative, relevant and unique African experience.

At Motswari Private Game Reserve, we want to ensure that our local and international guests be granted the opportunity to make the most of the African experience. Therefore, we are now offering extended game drives of three and a half hours in open Land Rovers. These are conducted at sunrise and sunset, when most of the animals are out and about. Bush walks are also available to guests, and are conducted by professional guides, armed for your protection. These provide a close-up view of the animals as well as their natural environment.

Staff members have been trained to answer your questions regarding the wildlife f the area and talks are conducted on a regular basis to allow for you to learn more and to question the guides. Every day, a total of up to 9 hours in the actual bushveld is offered by Motswari Private Game Reserve.

Apart from the famous Big Five, you are likely to spot cheetah, wild dogs, and naturally occurring herbivores from the antelope and gazelle families. Our nocturnal residents include hyena, honey-badger, civet, the bush-baby and a variety of spectacular owls. Because of the wide array, the daytime game drives offer a completely different variety of animals than the night time, and it is well worth the experience to do both of these tours. The birdlife at Motswari is extensive, and over 350 different species of bird can be viewed, regardless of seasonal changes.

Art and Nature

At Motswari Private Game Reserve, we believe that most art is largely inspired by nature and have constructed and furnished the lodge with this in mind. The construction, interior and artwork of the bungalows make use of natural materials including wood, bone and stone. Motswari's art gallery is the platform for local artists to gain exposure. Artwork is reminiscent of the environment in which it was constructed. The sculpture garden is available for sculptors to create and leave their pieces in, both for the aesthetic and inspirational value, as well as to sell these pieces to the guests of the lodge.

Guests are also encouraged to express their artistic talents during their stay, as existing pieces and the spectacular environment inspire. Many of these pieces remain at the lodge for the future benefit of other guests.
