NORTH WEST LODGE ACCOMMODATION

The exclusive 5 star Morukuru Lodge is located 3 and a half hour's drive from Johannesburg in the malaria free Madikwe Private Game Reserve, South Africa's second largest game sanctuary. This reserve is home to a rich biodiversity of Mammals, including the Big 5 and offers excellent bird viewing, with over 350 recorded bird species.

The Morukuru Lodge & House take their name from the Tswana word for the Tamboti Tree and this exclusively appointed bush lodge enjoys a unique setting under these trees on the edge of the Marico River. The bush villa is suited to private parties and families looking for exclusive use of the lodge.

The Morukuru Lodge can accommodate 6 adults and 4 children - children of all ages are welcome here. The Morukuru House can accommodate 4 guests - no children under the age of 16 can be accommodated here.

Morukuru Lodge

The exclusive-use bush villa exudes a warm, hospitable African ambience and provides guests with a high level of personal service in the form of a butler and outstanding cuisine prepared by the personal chef who caters to guests' specific culinary requirements.


Three air-conditioned bedrooms with private decks and en-suite bathrooms connect into the central living area which consists of a magnificent lounge with cosy fireplace. An attractive dining room is situated in this central area catering for anything from a light snack to a 3 course dinner. Adjacent to the bedrooms is a family room with a large sofa which doubles up to provide two super-size single beds should additional accommodation be required for children. The family room houses recreational and office facilities including a television, DVD, internet and satellite access.

The Morukuru Lodge has the perfect setting for alfresco dining on the wooden decks overlooking the beautiful swimming pool area under majestic tamboti trees. The riverbed lies beyond where animals can be viewed quenching their thirst. In the evening traditional African dinners can be enjoyed around an open fire in a secluded "boma" under the stars.

Exceptional game viewing experiences are offered at Morukuru and Madikwe, with guests having their own private game ranger and 4x4 game viewing vehicle. The Morukuru Lodge offers guests the flexibility of game drives or walks scheduled to their specific needs.

Morukuru Owner's House

The Morukuru Owner's House is situated adjacent to Madikwe Game Reserve with Marico river frontage. This private 500 ha farm is incorporated in the Madikwe reserve so the animals can roam freely over the property. Persons wanting absolute privacy can rent the owner's house, a private exclusive use bush villa named Morukuru Owner's House, situated 50 metres from the Morukuru Lodge. Guests at Morukuru Owner's House will enjoy the exclusive use of an exceptional team of dedicated staff to take care of their every need. The personal manager, ranger, chef, butler, tracker, nanny and housekeeping staff will ensure guests enjoy a truly memorable African experience.

Guests enter the Morukuru Owner's House through the design lobby for their wardrobe, adjacent to the magnificent, spacious lounge which features a cosy fireplace. A little further is the dining room and on the left of the staircase is the wine cellar, where guests have a choice of the finest South African wines. The kitchen, where the private chef will prepare superb meals, is situated just next to the dining room.

The library features a collection of books, CD's and DVD's and a 42 inch flat panel TV as well as a Bose home sound system. An office desk is also provided with computer and wireless access to the internet.

Two air-conditioned bedrooms with private decks are provided at the Morukuru House, one facing north towards the hills with en-suite bathroom and Jacuzzi, inside rain dance shower and outside shower. The other room faces the river with en-suite bathroom, inside rain dance shower and outside shower overlooking the magnificent rim flow pool. For the ultimate romantic African experience guests can use the outside bath under the stars next to the rim flow on the edge of the river.

Guests at the Morukuru House will have their own private game viewing vehicle and game ranger, offering the flexibility of scheduling game drives suited to the specific needs of their party, although early morning and early evening game drives are suggested for the best game viewing.

  • Morukuru can be reached either by road or daily 45 minute scheduled charter flights from Johannesburg to Madikwe (Private Charter)
  • Children under 16 years cannot be accommodated at Morukuru Owner's House.
