Mkuze Falls Game Reserve5 STAR LODGE ON NORTH COAST KWAZULU NATAL, SOUTH AFRICA Beautifully situated in the heart of historic Zululand in KwaZulu-Natal, Mkuze Falls is one of only two Private Game Reserves in the region which is home to Africa's Big Five - lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, elephant and approximately 400 species of birds. Accommodation Falls Lodge: Mkuze Falls Game Lodge consists of eight thatched chalets, a safari suite and a central complex all of which are built on raised wooden platforms and have spacious verandas. Private balconies provide panoramic views of the Falls or the perennial Mkuze River and hills beyond. The centrally located facilities feature a dining area, comfortable lounge, an indoor pub, a shady terrace and a swimming pool. The spacious lounge leads onto a viewing deck, which is built over the sloping riverbank. This deck provides superb views of the winding Mkuze River and landscape beyond. In the heat of the day guests can relax under the shady palm trees and enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool. In the evenings lively entertainment is provided by traditional Zulu dancers. |

The Tented Lodge: Five unique Hemingway-style East African safari tents are situated on the Mkuze River, offering guests the opportunity to view a wide variety of animals which come to drink. The tents are built on wooden decks raised on stilts linked together by timber walkways with beautiful views of the surrounding bush. Each tent is luxurious, comfortable and beautifully decorated featuring double / twin beds, air-conditioning and overhead fan, mosquito nets and en-suite facilities including a Victorian-style, free-standing bath and an inside / outside shower. Other features are a lounge, bar, swimming pool and boma in which to enjoy starlit evenings and the sounds of the African night. The Bush Camp: Located near to a tributary of the Mkuze River is a true wilderness tented camp. Surrounded by bush and nature guests can dine around a campfire at night, lunch in the shade of the trees and enjoy a hearty breakfast beside the river! An experienced field guide will track the Big Five and enthrall guests with his vast knowledge of the local fauna and flora. Plains game is abundant and birders can expect to view a vast array of birds whilst on expedition. Dining: Highly experienced staff are trained to delight and pamper the most discerning guests. The menu varies daily and features South African dishes including local venison specialities during the hunting season. Vegetarian meals are prepared on request. In fine weather, dinner or a South African 'braai' (barbecue) is served in the Boma. Activities / Facilities: Safaris or game drives take place in the early morning, late afternoon and early evening. The game drives are led by experienced game rangers and trained nature guides. Guests will be in awe of the expertise of the rangers and guides as they have an amazing ability to spot game in situations where the untrained eye sees nothing. |
