Madikwe Game Reserve

The exclusive 5 star Mateya Safari Lodge is situated in the heart of the magnificent 75,000 hectare malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve in the North West Province. This game rich reserve is characterized by extensive plains of savannah sloping towards the Marico River, bordered in the south by the majestic Dwarsberg Mountain Range.

The Madikwe Game Reserve is a scenic three and a half hours drive from Johannesburg and 120 km from the Sun City Resort. The Reserve boasts its own airstrip a short drive from the Lodge and regular flights from Johannesburg make the luxurious Mateya Safari Lodge easily accessible to visitors.

The welcoming reception area at Mateya is decorated with striking original artworks and leads out onto a viewing deck affording panoramic views of the game reserve and surrounding escarpment. For guests wishing to bring their work with them, Mateya Lodge offers full Internet and email facilities in the business centre. For guests who wish to maintain their fitness levels, the cardiovascular gym features all the necessary equipment required for a satisfying workout.

Accommodation

The Mateya Safari Lodge comprises five individually designed luxury air conditioned thatched suites featuring original African art reflecting the exciting, untamed atmosphere of the African bush. Each suite blends skilfully with its natural surroundings and offers unparalleled views of the waterhole and game rich plains. Guests will experience a blend of complete privacy, sophisticated luxury and comfort in the beauty of nature.

Each suite features a natural window sala, rim-flow swimming pool and en-suite bathroom complete with a secluded and sensual open-air shower.

Dining

Be prepared to experience a harmony of flavours and textures with a distinctly African flair prepared by imaginative chefs using only the finest home grown ingredients. An exciting culinary experience is offered under the glorious African night sky in the open air boma with its central roaring fire.

For private dining in an elegant setting, The Wine Cellar at the Mateya Safari Lodge is available and the main dining room with its glass walls offers a spectacular view of the surrounding plains. Meals are also served on the lounge deck.

Madikwe Game Reserve is home to the largest selection of wildlife on the continent as well as over 350 species of birds assuring guests of the opportunity to view the "Super 7" - Buffalo, Cheetah, Elephant, Leopard, Lion, Rhino (Black and White) and Wild Dog. Safari excursions are planned according to guests' specific interests, thereby ensuring an exciting and fulfilling safari experience.
