Nestled on the north-eastern extremity of the Okavango Delta, Mapula Lodge is just outside Mapula Lodge in Botswana. This private getaway promises guests a relaxing retreat or an exciting adventure.

Mapula Lodge's main complex boasts spacious decks that overlook the impressive, permanent lagoon where the local hippopotamus residents promise an eventful afternoon's viewing. This main complex also houses the inviting lounge, dining area and bar. Sip on a cold ale while drinking in the spectacular views of the Okavango Delta. A small library is available for guests seeking stimulation, and the swimming pool is a refreshing retreat for travellers weary from the warm sun.

Of course, this beautiful area is also home to many of Africa's most respected wildlife, and this area is particularly rich in game. The abundance of trees around the lodge accommodates the splendid array of birds in the area.

The area in which Mapula Lodge is situated is a permanent water area, which means that the water sources do not dry up during certain periods of the year. Usually, waterways' water levels drop during January to May, making the mokoro safari (a cruise on one of the traditional dug-out canoes) impossible. At Mapula Lodge, guests can enjoy this and other water activities year-round.
Experienced guides and trackers provide informative walking safaris, game drives and night drives. Game drives are best enjoyed in the early morning and late afternoon, when the heat of the day has passed and animals are more active. Night drivers offer a unique viewing experience as the shy nocturnal residents of the area come out to eat.

Accommodation

Mapula Lodge comprises 10 luxury chalets; each furnished in traditional style and finished off with the use of natural log. The use of local craftsmen ensures an authentic chalet construction, and their attention to detail promises an all-round rewarding experience. Each chalet has a small lunge and a bathroom with a bath. Alternatively, the outside shower is a fantastic way to unwind in the midst of sheer African luxury.

Activities

Mapula Lodge takes advantage of its position in the north western part of the Okavango Delta by offering fantastic walking safaris, waterway safaris on mokoros, game drives and night drives.

Game viewers are the perfect vantage point as they journey through open grasslands and dense woodlands. Experienced guides and trackers are trained to track and point out interesting plants and animals that reside in this area.

To appreciate the smaller fauna and flora of the area, a bush walk allows for a slower, up-close-and-personal experience. Indigenous plants and a myriad bird species are all around and the guide will be more than happy to answer your every question.

Mokoro safaris are conducted from the traditional dug-out canoe of the locals. Gulp the pristine air and relax on the still waters as you view the local animals at their favourite watering spots.

Access and flights to Mapula Lodge

Mapula Lodge is remote and is, therefore, best accessed by light aircraft, which also provides fantastic aerial views of the area. The flight from Maun is approximately 40 minutes. The lodge is serviced by the Xarakai Airstrip, at which all charter companies are allowed to land.

Guests who prefer to drive themselves will need to park at Maun and take a charter from there.
