Located in the malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve, the unique and exclusive Makanyane Safari Lodge was skilfully designed to blend perfectly with its bushveld surroundings. The comfortable, luxurious interiors of this game lodge carry the natural theme through in its furnishings and décor.

The lodge at Makanyane is situated in a forest and consists of an aesthetically pleasing main building and eight luxurious suites which enjoy spectacular views of the tranquil Marico River. Situated within the 75,000 hectare game rich Madikwe Game Reserve, the game lodge provides accommodation for a maximum of sixteen guests, thereby ensuring privacy and personal attention.

The African theme is carried through to each guest suite with rich textures evident in walls of natural rock and dried tree trunks merging with rough teak doors and thatch. The unique glass walled bedroom suites allow panoramic views of the river and surrounding bush. The open-fronted lounge in the main building at the Makanyane Safari Lodge features a private sundeck which is perfect for game viewing and drinking in the sights and sounds of the untamed African bush.

Guest suites at the Lodge feature en-suite bathrooms with under-floor heating as well as indoor and outdoor showers. Wide, folding doors can be opened, allowing guests to enjoy the sounds and scents of the surrounding bush as they use the luxurious freestanding bathtub.
Accessories offered in the bathrooms are bathrobes, hairdryers, insect repellent, body and sun lotion as well as soap, shampoo and conditioner. Further features in the guest suites are fireplaces, overhead fans and air conditioners. The rooms also have a telephone, hot beverage making facilities, mini safe and a bar fridge.

Dining at the Lodge

Makanyane Lodge prides itself on offering an exceptionally high standard of food and wine. Meals are a skilful and imaginative blend of European and African influences incorporating the flavours and fresh local produce of the area. The delicious cuisine is complimented by fine South African wines from the extensive cellar.

Activities:

Activities at the Makanyane Safari Lodge aim to relax body and mind in peaceful surroundings and strip away the stresses of city living whilst experiencing all the African bush has to offer. Relax at the secluded swimming pool or indulge in a massage or aromatherapy on the private deck or in the bush spa. The lodge has a well stocked library and comfortable reading areas such as the den or one of the outside decks.

Madikwe is South Africa's second largest game reserve and offers numerous game viewing opportunities. Guests can choose from game safaris in open vehicles or interesting and informative foot safaris, both accompanied by knowledgeable rangers. The species which can be seen at Madikwe include lion, leopard, black rhino and white rhino as well as large herds of elephant and buffalo. The rare African wild dog, cheetah, spotted and brown hyena, giraffe, zebra and numerous antelope species also roam the reserve. Over 340 bird species can be observed in Madikwe.
