KOMATI TENTED LODGE, 5 STAR LODGE
MPUMALANGA LODGE ACCOMMODATION

The Komati Tented Lodge with River Retreat is a luxurious escape for travellers from around the world. It is located in the heart of the Nkomazi Game Reserve in the beautiful South African province of Mpumalanga and boasts prime positioning along the banks of the Komati River. Mpumalanga is green and lush; vast expanses of tall trees and green grass are flanked by mountains, valleys and rivers, which combine to create a spectacular vista.

Its positioning also means that Komati Tented Lodge is close to several natural wonders and tourist attractions. These include the world-famous Kruger National Park, Blyde River Canyon, God's Window and Pilgrims Rest.

The game reserve in which this lodge is situated, Nkomazi, is as diverse as the country it represents. Landscapes, plants, wildlife and birds come together to create an environment of sheer African beauty amidst world-class opulence and a rich sense of history and culture. Guests of the Komati Tented Lodge enjoy the prime opportunity of relaxing at one of the country's top exclusive facilities, while experience South Africa and Mpumalanga at its most exquisite.

Accommodation

The Komati Tented Lodge boasts 12 luxurious tented suites, each equipped with 5-star amenities and the ultimate in privacy and relaxation. These tents display a distinctly African feel, while maintaining elegance and style.
There are 11 Noble Suites and one Royal Suite. Each tent has an extra large king-size bed, cooling, heating, en-suite shower, outdoor bath, private plunge pool and wooden deck. The facilities ensure that guests are comfortable and pampered during their stay.

There are pathways leading from each suite to the main tent. Guests requiring TLC are welcome to make use of the spa treatments available in the River Retreat, where worries and stress melt under the hands of an expert. There are two treatment rooms available and therapists are skilled in a number of treatments and techniques.

Activities

The Nkomazi Game Reserve offers a wide range of vegetation, and the wildlife that make their homes there. The geological wonders and natural beauty promise a most rewarding visit, while guests are encouraged to participate in hands-on activities and discoveries.

Morning game drives provide the ideal opportunity to view otherwise elusive wildlife as they hunt, drink water and play in the cooler hours of the day. As the sun rises over this land of waterfalls, cliffs and granite outgrowths, tourists and locals alike are humbled in its spectacular beauty.

To see and feel nature from a first-hand perspective, there are several walking- and hiking trails available, as well as game drive routes. Star gazing tours, bird watching and rock art viewing are added to the list of possible activities, designed to educate, entertain and enthral. The River Retreat is equipped with a gift boutique, an outdoor dining area (in a boma) and a Majilis Lounge Tent, which has a viewing deck from where to experience the stunning surrounds.

Flora and Fauna in the Nkomazi Game Reserve, Mpumalanga

The Nkomazi Game Reserve has been restored to a special haven for the many wildlife species that reside here. Although they were once scarce in Mpumalanga, the Nkomazi Conservation Project has ensured that they are, once again, welcome and cared for in these rolling plains.

Because of the varied nature of the vegetation, Nkomazi can accommodate many different types of plants and animals within their natural habitat, which includes both high-lying grasslands and low-lying bushveld. This area is home to, among others, the Big 5, which comprises lions, elephants, leopards, buffalos and rhinos.

Komati Tented Lodge is situated within Nkomazi Game Reserve, which is, in turn, situated within the Barberton Mountainland. This area is rich in plant species. In fact, it boasts a higher biodiversity in terms of vegetation than the entire Kruger National Park. It is one of the few areas recognised as the 'Centres of Biological Endemism' in the country. It is home to the national flower, the Protea, and is where the Barberton Daisy (or Gerbera) was discovered for the first time. In addition, it is home to many other native plants and animals, promising visitors varied sights, sounds, textures and colours.

This area is also rich in history, and fossils found here have been dated back millions of years. Nkomazi protects some of the oldest known fossils in the world as well as grasslands, which are becomingly increasingly threatened the world over. The various vegetation biomes are home to a plethora of plants and animals, some endangered and rare, as well as 250 different bird species. Interestingly, there are three butterfly species that are found in the Barberton hills, which are not found anywhere else in the world. These are the Swanepoel's Blue, Jeffrey's Blue and Barbara's Copper.
