Gondwana Kalahari Park in Namibia, Southern Africa

A spectacular portrait of natural beauty at its best graces the red sand dunes in the form of lush green acacias and yellow grass against the high azure sky. This spectacle stretches for hundreds of kilometres, and has come to characterise the Kalahari National Park. The Gondwana Kalahari Park in Namibia is extensive, covering 100 km². This area is home to a variety of animals, such as springbok, gemsbok, ostrich, jackal, hare and porcupine. Bird enthusiasts have the opportunity to spot the largest flying bird, the Kori Bustard, or the nests of the weaver birds, occupying entire tree canopies.

These iconic sand dunes are 15 to 30 metres high, and stretch for hundred of kilometres. The sand that forms the dunes was deposited millions of years ago and is the only remnant of long-lost mountains. Winds blew mounds of sand into parallel crests along the red expanses. This is now the largest unbroken stretch of sand in the world. A variety of wildlife has made this stunning locale their home, including the Oryx antelope, springbok, bat-eared fox and ostrich.
