Honeyguide Tented Safari Camps

SABI SAND LODGE ACCOMMODATION
MPUMALANGA GAME RESERVE LODGES

There are two camps that make up the magnificent Honeyguide; the Honeyguide Khoka Moya Camp and the Honeyguide Mantobeni Camp. These are secluded within the Manyeleti Game Reserve, which stretches for 23 000 hectares and boasts an intriguing number of plants and animals. This reserve is situated just outside the world-renowned Kruger National Park, between the Timbavati Reserve and Sabi Sands Reserve.

As the Shangaan name, Manyeleti, implies, this area showcases awe-inspiring night skies, littered with millions of bright stars.

The unique advantage of these camps is that they combine the raw beauty of the African bush with the luxurious touches of quality accommodation, excellent food and top-notch service. There are various activities and guided tours available for guests wanting to explore the surrounding treasures, some of which are aimed particularly at children to ensure that both they and their parents get to experience South Africa in a relevant and personalised way.

Accommodation

The Honeyguide Mantobeni Camp
This camp comprises 12 tents, each with a distinct Indian style, giving them a romantic nostalgia. They are situated in the Tamboti grove near a watering hole and a dry riverbed, guaranteeing excellent views of a variety of animals that come here to drink and cool off. The reception areas have large indoor and outdoor areas in which to relax, as well as a bar and wine cellar.
The swimming pool and deck are perfect during the balmy South African summers, and the watering hole is clearly visible from them.

The tents in the Mantobeni Camp are each equipped with a king-size bed, leather couches, private bathroom with a concrete bath, double shower and toilet. Children over the age of 12 years are welcome.

The Honeyguide Khoka Moya Camp
This camp is situated on either side of the dry riverbed and has a modern, relaxed feel about it. It boasts views of the lush green lawns as well as the sparkling swimming pool, while the brightly-coloured public areas give guests a sense of fun and relaxation.

There are 12 tents that make up Khoka Moya, each of which has a king-size bed, mosquito nets, en-suite bathroom, double shower, toilet, private seating area outside and magnificent views of the surrounding environment. The tents are 60 square metres and can accommodate four people. Children of all ages are welcome.

Dining

The menu is varied and dynamic, changing according to daily preferences as well as seasons. However, all menu items are prepared using fresh ingredients and innovative expertise. These may be savoured in the dining area or in the boma, which is a traditional African meeting place, dating back centuries to the earliest tribes that inhabited this land. Alternatively, outdoor dinners in the bush can be arranged.

Activities

After guests enjoy their morning cup of coffee served in their private tent, a game drive is the ideal way to start the day. These are conducted by trained guides in open 4 x 4's to allow for uninterrupted views of the animals as they emerge in the dawning light. Some of these animals include the Big Five (lions, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos and leopards). These morning drives take approximately three hours and are interrupted by a coffee break and some snacks. Upon return to the camp, breakfast will be served.

Foot safaris are conducted during the day and encourage guests to be more hands-on participants in the fauna and flora of Africa. Experienced rangers will point out various bird and insect species and will provide extra information regarding plants, spoor and dung. This is only available to guests over the age of 12 years.

The afternoon game drive exposes more wildlife to visitors and, as the sun sets in a majestic array of warm colours, nocturnal animals begin to leave their hiding places in search of food and water. During this tour, refreshing sundowners and light snacks are enjoyed.

Should guests feel like relaxing at the camp site rather than embarking on daytime activities, they are welcome to soak up the warmth of the day around the swimming pool or read a good book in the library.

Children

The Honeyguide Khoka Moya Camp ensures that children get as much from this safari encounter as their parents. The educational programme is designed to occupy and entertain young ones while parents embark on safari adventures of their own. There are several activities available to the children under the guidance of professional staff members. Kids may enjoy their Honeyguide t-shirt, colouring-in books (for the younger ones), cookie making, soccer games, cricket matches and swimming pool.

The menu at Honeyguide is flexible enough to accommodate the preferences of children. Items like fish fingers, burgers and hot dogs are available.

Children under 12 pay half an adult rate and those under two are free, on condition that they share a tent with their parents.

Note: The children's programme is available only at the Honeyguide Khoka Moya camp, not at the Mantobeni camp
