Gondwana Etosha Lodges

4 STAR LODGE IN OSHIKOTO REGION
GONDWANA ETOSHA LODGES, NAMIBIA

Etosha Safari Lodge

The Etosha Safari Lodge enjoys prime locale, just 10km south of the Andersson Gate of the Etosha National Park in Namibia, on the C38. Opened at the end of 2008, Etosha Safari Lodge boasts 50 comfortable bungalows, a restaurant, bar and crystal-clear swimming pool. This lodge is situated on a hillock, approximately 2km from camp and presents stunning views of the lush hills of the Etosha National Park.

Guided game drives into the Etosha National Park are conducted every day. Alternatively, guests are able to take a self-driven trip through the park. There is also a convenient shuttle service between the accommodation facilities of the Gondwana Etosha Collection (Etosha Safari Lodge and Etosha Safari Camp) and Namibia's capital, Windhoek. This service is only available to guests and additional charges apply.

Etosha Safari Camp

The Etosha Safari Camp is also on the C38, 10km south of Etosha National Park's Andersson Gate, between Outjo and Okaukuejo in Namibia. The Etosha Safari Camp comprises 50 twin-bedded chalets, under the umbrella of the local mopane trees; a truly African experience. Each chalet has a private bathroom and a verandah, as well as mosquito netting.

Etosha National Park is acclaimed the world over for its rich diversity of animals. Guests of the safari camp can look forward to spotting the mighty elephant and its young enjoying a mud bath, zebra en route to their watering hole, springbok leaping through the tall grasses of the savannah, or the elegant lion enjoying the warm sun before a night hunt.
This park stretches for 22 700 km² and is home to over 100 mammal species and in excess of 230 different birds! "Etosha" means 'large, white place', and this is certainly befitting of this vast salt pan of a dried up lake. The Etosha National Park has been one of the main attractions in Namibia since its establishment in 1907, making it one of the oldest conservation areas in Africa.

Activities

Etosha Safari Lodge provides guests with guided drives into the park in an open vehicle, ensuring maximum visibility and access.

Etosha National Park, Namibia

The popular Etosha National Park was declared a national park in 1907 and is one of the oldest conservation areas in Africa. Stretching for 22 700 km², the vast area accommodates 114 species of mammals, 340 species of birds, 100 reptile species, 16 amphibian species and even one species of fish!

"Etosha" means 'large, white place' and is mostly made up of an enormous mineral pan, which also form part of the Kalahari Basin. The floor of this pan is believed to be about 1000 million years old. The Etosha Pan was originally a lake fed by the Kunene River and now covers about a quarter of the entire National Park. The original lake dried up when the river's course changed many thousands of years ago. The pan is now a dry mixture of salt and clay. When rains are very heavy, it may fill with water, but this is usually very temporary. While the valuable waters do not last for very long in the pan, they do attract thousands of wading birds to the region, including the beautiful pink flamingo. The edges of the Etosha Pan are dotted with perennial springs, which also attract an impressive variety of wild- and birdlife.

Because of the game-rich nature of the Etosha National Park, game viewing is a most rewarding experience. The best time for such game viewing is between May and September, which are Namibia's cooler months. This is the ideal time for the many bucks, elephants, giraffes, rhinos and lions to roam the vast plains. On the rare occasion, leopard and cheetah also make an appearance.
