The gorgeous Constantia Uitsig Hotel enjoys sheer serenity within its private wine estate at the foot of Cape Town's famous Table Mountain. These idyllic surrounds compliment the elegant rooms, breath-taking views and world-class service perfectly. This wine estate is one that functions efficiently, yielding excellent vintages for guests to sample. The manicured gardens are restful and inviting and the spa enjoys superior facilities, and has even been recognised as one of the Top Spas in the World by the 2007 Tatler's Guide.

In addition to its lovely setting, Constantia Uitsig Hotel is only 20 minutes' drive from the city centre, Table Mountain's cableway, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and the Cape Town international Conference Centre. This farm was known as Constantia View until 1940. Its first inhabitants arrived in South Africa in 1735. It was originally part of Dutch explorer Simon van der Stel property (Groot Constantia).

It was only in the late 1980's that the McCays purchased the farm and restored it to the magnificent property it is today.

Accommodation

The Constantia Uitsig Hotel has 16 chic garden suites, all elegantly furnished and tastefully decorated to suit the taste of our esteemed guests. These all have views of the gardens from private balconies. Standard amenities in each room include a marbled en-suite bathroom, heated floors, air-conditioning, television, wireless Internet access, mini bar, tea- and coffee station, safe, hairdryer and telephone. In addition, guests have the convenience of room service between 07h00 and 21h00, a turn-down service and wake-up calls, if necessary.
The 16 rooms comprise six Garden Twin Rooms, five Victorian Rooms, two Manor Suites, two Family Rooms and one Superior Suite; ensuring that guests get the facilities and services they require during their stay in the Mother City.

La Colombe
La Colombe restaurant is an award winning eatery, famous for its French cuisine, enhanced by unique Asian touches. Luke Dale-Roberts is the executive chef of this establishment, and values the importance of imagination and innovation in each of his dishes. He focuses on bold flavours that intrigue and tantalise the palate. These tastes are complemented by world-class wines and unrivalled service.

Constantia Uitsig Restaurant
This restaurant oozes the unmistakable influence of Italy and its cuisine. However, this traditional style is enhanced by cunning Asian twists, while never negotiating on top-notch dining quality. The chef of this esteemed establishment is Clayton Bell, known for his commitment to consistently good quality, simple flavours and straight-forward dishes. These dishes are best savoured in the friendly, warm, hospitable ambience of the dining room. Constantia Uitsig Hotel is frequently recognised as one of the country's best restaurants.

River Café
The River Café serves tasty breakfasts, light lunches, delicious afternoon teas and hearty dinners. This is a social venue, frequented by local Capetonians and guests of the hotel alike. It is headed up by the Head Chef, Scot Kirton, who is Luke Dale-Roberts' protégé. The elegant surrounds are set off by a relaxed ambience and beautiful views. The style of this eatery reminds diners of a classic bistro in which healthy meals are created using fresh ingredients and boasting the bright, rich colours of the most wholesome tastes. Local wines from Constantia are best paired with these food flavours to ensure that the hungry and thirsty palate is well-rewarded. The River Café's menu is dynamic, changing from one day to the next so that frequent diners are given the opportunity to sample the widest array of dishes. Such flexibility never negotiates on the quality of the food or the excellent service within these tasteful surrounds.

The local horticulturalist, Boyd Hutchings, plays an integral role in the quality and range of dishes available. He works closely with the chefs and takes care of the organic garden, which provides many of the ingredients used in the kitchen, including herbs and vegetables.

Spa

Guests of the Constantia Uitsig Hotel are sure to need some revitalising of body and mind after the ever-moving buzz of city life. The local spa promises each visitor a complete rejuvenation within the lush, peaceful surroundings of the wine farm. As trained therapists ease tired muscles, the views of the surrounding mountains and vineyards will soothe the tired mind. Spa guests will delight in the range of treatments administered by expert hands. This spa is the only one in the country to use the aromatics of wine in a series of body treatments. This method is known as 'Les Aromes du Vin'.

Location

Constantia Uitsig is centrally situated in the suburbs just 20 minutes from Cape Town's city centre. It is at the foot of Table Mountain and is approximately 25 minutes from the international airport. Despite being so central, it is secluded and tranquil.

The Valley

The Constantia Valley has yielded some of the world's best wines. Constantia Uitsig Hotel and seven other wine farms are situated in the valley itself and, while they each produce a unique product, all enjoy the success of these ideal conditions. In fact, this area was known by major personalities like the royals and Napoleon Bonaparte for their outstanding wines, which they demanded. The conditions in the valley boast lots of rain, long sunshine hours, cool winds coming off the Atlantic Ocean and a range of different types of soil.

  • Take the N2 highway / motorway towards Cape Town
  • Travel approx 10 km on N2
  • Take the M3 Muizenberg turnoff to your left
  • Travel on the M3 until the Ladies Mile off-ramp (off-ramp after Kendal Road)
  • At the traffic lights turn left into Ladies Mile
  • At the next set of traffic lights turn left in Spaanschemat River Road

  • Take the M3 out of the City towards Muizenberg on either Eastern Boulevard or De Waal Drive
  • At Hospital Bend take the M3 to Muizenberg
  • Follow the M3, passing UCT on your right, for about 9km
  • Travel on the M3 until the Ladies Mile off-ramp (off-ramp after Kendal Road)
  • At the traffic lights turn left into Ladies Mile
  • At the next set of traffic lights turn left in Spaanschemat River Road
  • Pass Peddlars On The Bend on right hand side
  • Pass signage to Buitenverwachting and Klein Constantia on right hand side

  • Take the M14 until you get to the R27
  • Take the R27 towards Table Bay/City
  • Take the N2 to City and take Rhodes Drive to M3 Muizenberg

  • Travel on the M3 until the Ladies Mile off-ramp (off-ramp after Kendal Road)
  • At the traffic lights turn left into Ladies Mile
  • At the next set of traffic lights turn left in Spaanschemat River Road
