Blue Gum Estate

HOTELS IN HERMANUS, WHALE ROUTE
HERMANUS HOTEL ACCOMMODATION

The Blue Gum Country Estate is concealed from the hustle and bustle of city living in a beautiful valley just outside Hermanus, Western Cape. This 4-star lodge is situated on a working wine estate that extends for a gorgeous 130 acres. Surrounded by tall Blue Gum trees and overlooking the lazy Klein Rivier ("Small River"), guests have little option but to relax their bodies and minds while taking in the warm air and the stunning vistas of the Western Cape.

Accommodation

The Blue Gum Estate offers guests a choice between the Manor House Rooms, Mountain View Rooms and the Blue Gum Country Villa. Both the Manor House and Mountain View rooms have a mini bar, television with certain satellite channels, full bathroom, complimentary tea and coffee and tasty biscuits.

Manor House Rooms - these colonial rooms combine the elegance of white with the deep African earth tones to create a luxurious retreat. They have a private verandah, from which guests can stand for hours as they admire the vineyards and valley.

Mountain View Rooms - the English countryside is a clear inspiration for these comfortable rooms with their wooden floors and private verandahs. The views from these suites display the Overberg Mountains in their awesome beauty. Families may request interleading rooms.

Blue Gum Villa - this home is reminiscent of French Provence in its style and décor. It has three bedrooms and can accommodate up to 10 people (with the use of a sleeper couch in addition to the beds provided).

Large, airy rooms and country-style furniture make for a relaxing home-away-from-home, while the Blue Gum Villa maintains all of the luxurious amenities of a hotel. This villa includes a private swimming pool, fully-equipped kitchen, lounge, outdoor patio, formal dining area, LCD television, bar, family lounge and a range of board games. The villa is serviced every day.

Dining

The Blue Gum restaurant exudes a charming romance, typical of its distinct French influences. The cuisine is also French and boasts only the freshest ingredients and most delicious flavours. Tasty breakfasts are served between 08h00 and 10h00 in the sun room, and include a refreshing cold buffet as well as a hearty cooked option. Views of the pastures and vineyards complement the tasty ingredients to perfection. Dinners are served at 19h00 in the chic dining room. Many of the ingredients used to create these sumptuous dishes are sourced in and around the valley itself, ensuring that they are the freshest and tastiest ingredients available.

The wine list at Blue Gum reflects some of the excellent flavours for which the Western Cape is famous. Wines from the estate's immediate surrounds are especially favoured, and are paired with certain meals so that diners get the most out of both their meal and their wine.

Activities

The swimming pool and pool area overlook the vineyards and pastures, creating an oasis of cool refreshment and unrivalled views in one, relaxing retreat. For guests needing some time indoors, the library offers a wide array of books and magazines, as well as board games, which can be enjoyed with the rest of the family.

The fauna and flora of the estate and valley is simply stunning, and can be enjoyed on formal walks through the valley or on gentle meanders at one's leisure. Over 100 species of birds have been spotted in the area, so avian enthusiasts are urged to bring binoculars and bird books along. Experienced guides are available for personalised tours.

Additional activities to be enjoyed on and around the estate include quad biking, walking, hiking, boule, croquet and mountain biking.
